8 ways Cape Town can show off ..

  1. A catamaran through the waterfront out into the bay. Our “tour guide” – my sister-in-law! chose the perfect day for us to be out on the ocean. No wind and clear views.img_5822
  2. A cooking tour in Bo-Kaap with Zainie. http://www.bokaapcookingtour.co.za/our-services.html. It was a real pleasure to meet and spent 3 hours in the company of Zainie and her family. She took us on a brief tour of Bo Kaap and the spice shop and the corner cafe before welcoming us into her home and showing us the fine art of cooking cape Malay style.
  3. Cricket at Newlands. We watched the final day of South Africa vs Sri Lanka. Short but oh so sweet.
  4. Seeing the runner ducks of Vergenoegd Wine Estate. http://vergenoegd.co.za They use the runner ducks as part of there pest control programme, eating the snails etc. and do public viewings of them going out to work.
  5. Swimming in the cold water at Clifton Beach and getting there using the ‘my citi”. It was great to experience the different economic groups. We went from a hot and crowded bus with people getting to and from work to a premier Beach in the country with All the beautiful people posing around. The chilly / freezing Atlantic Ocean was also invigorating.img_2489
  6. Breakfast with champagne and OJ at Urban wines in Durbanville. Passion is the only word to describe Lisa and her team. FYI my omelette was heavenly – really I think it came from out of this world – so delicious. They have a very extensive wine selection and Lisa knows her stuff regarding wines. She was involved in the wine industry before opening up and running Urban Wines.

  7. Visiting Kalk Bay and the penguins at Boulders Bay. Kalk Bay is an eclectic melting pot of people and activities. Walking around the area and absorbing it all is an assault on all your senses.
  8. Walking up Lions Head and cooling off at Sanders pool in Bantry Bay. The views from the top of Lions Head on our clear morning were amazing but the cool off in at sea also took my breath away. Photos from Melanie van Heerden and Hayley Muirhead
