We (the happy farmer) and myself love road trips – bringing up thoughts of travel, adventure, exploration, …. but here are the top 5 reasons our teenagers do not enjoy them.
1. No uncapped internet. To have to use their precious data is instant death to them. No “gram”, no social media – how will they survive. At home they can trawl the internet at their leisure and download all sorts off interesting songs and cloth shopping apps.
2. Sitting in the same position for ages. The car is not the same as lying on the couch, they can do that for ages. If “vegging” on the couch was a sport, they would play for the first team. We would have some Olympic winners right here.
3. Replying to folks comments and trying to act interested in the information that gets sprouted out. They battle to find relevance in history and facts. I on the other hand am very interested in history and facts about places.
4. Being interrupted from their music. They like to just zone out with their ear phones on and stare out of the window. They hate being dragged out of their trance-like state.
5. Life is NOT a journey, to them it is all about the destination. Because our family is spread through out the Republic we usually end our roadtrips meeting up which means cousins which means fun times ahead. How we get there is really not that important.
