Corona Chronicles …cont

Wow, some limited freedom (but still no red wine) ….but as with most of us I am sure, there will be aspects of this unusual time that have made it special (…..different) and that will be missed.
1. The noises of Whyteleaf Cottage ….
I know why the collective noun for crows is a “murder of crows” … we had two sitting and sqauking in a tree in our garden …. Very clever because as soon as you go outside to give them a piece of your mind and unleash all of your frustration on them, they fly away … only to come back into another tree and start their harassment all over again….. add to this the bleating of a lamb trying to find its mother …. Every 20 seconds you hear a pathetic cry for help that pulls all your motherly strings …. baaaaaaaa…… KWAAK KWAAK KWAAK … who is downloading games ? I am trying to work …..baaaaaaa….. baa …… KWAAK KWAAK …… baaaa baaaa …..(it has found it mom ) KWAAK KWAAK KWAAK … this !@#$ internet…. KWAAK KWAAK…. What is for lunch?
Add to this the clucking of a hen, she is so proud of laying an egg she needs the world to know – the old fashion instagram / facebook ….
The Whyteleaf flock is now the proud owner of 9 little lambs: including “mid-march”, – born during freedom, and including “ping and pong” – twins born on Easter Saturday during the Whyteleaf Cottage Ping Pong Open. (5th place to me …yay …yay …yay)
2. The family whats app group …
In a strange way, we have all become closer sharing every unusual moment, through this journey with our whats app groups … for us particularly our family group ….
Strolling in the sun through a farmers market stacked with gorgeous looking fresh produce…. Grass basket in hand … no queuing … no crowds (Cape Town family)…. Fibre wifi (Johannesburg family) …… deliveries to their door within hours (UK family)….. LD together having family braai’s (Bergville family) … sharing drinks stocks and pavement parties (Ballito family) ….. while we are out in the country miles from markets …no deliveries .. basic wifi ….. and when we do venture into town for supplies … well no grass baskets or farmers markets in sight …..
BUT today I am getting a delivery of fresh veggies to our door!
I will definitely be sharing that on the group!
3. Unwelcome visitors ….
Any unwelcome visitors will get harshly dealt with …. We are in Lockdown after all … this includes the two snakes found within half an hour of each other … one slithering towards our chickens and the other towards the dogs’ bed’s …. Inside my fence … my rules of engagement …this leads to more shouting … shrieks …
4. Home schooling …
A free roller coaster ride for the emotions … some days I think I would like this to be the norm for 1 day a week … other days not so much …. Depending on the subject ….
And when we have a communal melt down (the YOS (youngest off spring) and his teacher (ME) ) the HF happens to be coming in … “you know who is really good with Afrikaans” … yes HF grew up as a Western Province supporter so is really good with Afrikaans but in the later years the Afrikaans he uses isn’t really the school going variety.
My standard answer to many questions “Ask your teacher … she is very clever you know” is replaced by “google it” …. And this response is spreading like lice in pre-school.

5. I miss school rugby … sitting under the trees … autumn shadows growing as the rugby gets more intense …..shouting abuse at the ref and nobody hearing you …. friends … drinks ….falling autumn leaves …. Take away for supper …
I miss coffee shops and friends … idle chatter and school news … swopping gossip of the area … speaking like an Italian (lots of arm movement…) ….
I miss hugging special friends (well I am a hugger so will continue to do this, but for other people …..) …. Sunday braais and get-togethers …. Kids overnight sleep overs (mine at friends ….) lugging full coolboxes and coming away with an empty one ….
I miss having red wine with a special meal …. Or just because ….going out to restaurants (pretending to be on master chef and rate the meal … it is good BUT is it enough?) … dressing up (my pearls must think I have deserted them) … getting my hair cut (and colored…) (although HF thinks colouring is an essential services and reckons he will brave the shop to buy me a box dye if I really start looking to haggard)
