“Midlands Forest Lodge is perched high up on the edge of luscious green hills and slopes. This tranquil and secluded hillside retreat lives up to its name by bordering on the pristine forest where flora and fauna abound and a natural sanctuary for numerous birds exists…….explore the forest with its towering giant yellowed trees”
I don’t know which was my favorite: the forest full of tangled vines, giant yellow woods and the patterns they form in the canopy, the open grassland with the many many colors of wild flowers, the peace and quiet making the bird sounds ring in your ears or the breath taking views as they open up before you.

We had a morning full of quality time as Mitch and I rambled through the indigenous forest and surrounds, spotting birds, flowers and game. Unfortunately the streams weren’t running because of the late spring rains but we crossed over bridges and scrambled over rocks. Walking out of the forest and up into the grass lands brought the welcome relief of the breeze. The wild flowers came in all shades and was constant inspiration for my “home painting” phase. In the distance the R103 ran like a silver ribbon tying up this beautiful valley and handing it to me, complete with a bow.

My hiking partner for the morning ……the beautiful Caversham valley below.
