A travel show ….

A weekend alone with the HF doing his thing and the YOF playing with a friend, led to a day of Netflix and binge watching. In a family of boys and not being too much of a TV addict (don’t get me wrong I can Binge With The Best…) this was something that was a bit of a treat for me…..

But I did not waste my day as I can put it all down to cultural insight, this was because I watched various romcoms based in New York.  You know the ones, a couple of young (early 30’s), ethnically diverse, beautiful, skinny, eclectically dressed (but their outfits look stunning and always work together) ladies, clawing their way up the ladder starting as lowly interns on coffee runs ….. and having lots of s*x. Of all types and so so much … and so sharey sharey ….and so visual … and s*x (oh … I said that already) and kissing….. in lovely apartments.

They live on all platforms of social media, always trying to start a conversation.  All the hashtags are covered:  #BLM, #metoo, #freethebreasts, #womenhaveneedstoo #livethevibe, and a lot of #thesexneedsofwomen #breakthatglassceiling.  You go girls! I know it made me think …. along with being a bit jealous of the outfits, high heels, coats and bare midriffs (these days imagine a 50 year old arriving at the local farmers association wearing anything besides jeans, takkies in beige, a black K-Way puffer …. And even on the beach a full wetsuit is my beach wear of choice … and coats – I have given up wearing those since my internal radiator kicked in)) I have watched my fair share of medical dramas that include passionate s*x no matter where, no matter with whom, and no matter how often, but I have always thought that was due to their highly stressful work environment and their “god like” complex.  Don’t get me wrong if someone is to operate on me they had better think they are God-like, no depressed, low self-esteemed average Joe is to touch this lump of loveliness with a scapple.  I always heavy-heartedly thought … I cannot become a doctor at my tender age …. But these movies gave me hope till I realised … they are in New York and we can’t travel with our lockdown level.

Brought up in the early 90’s …(ok late 80’s) it highlighted many really refreshing point of views.  OK disclaimer here … I know it is only a TV show and may not be 100% real but hey …. It is still an eyeopener.

So next time you get a chance, watch a different type of show.  One that is so different to your own life it is like a travel show, meeting the locals and a life so diverse it really is quite fixating …. and mind opening.
