Life to the extreme …

A holiday full of extremes …

It seems like anything can be elevated to an extreme level.  You get extreme sports, but you can also get extreme packing, extreme hiking and extreme river cruises to name but a few.

This holiday on the wild coast was full of many adventures and experiences and all were taken up a notch to reach the extreme level.  Take my packing for example.  I knew the length of time we were going for, but still only packed three shirts, thus limiting my washing (which was done in a hand basin!) thus juggling of my outfits took on an adventure all its own.

The wild coast walk we did ended up as a hike, when we took the wrong route and had to do some serious 4×4 adventuring to get off the cliff face.  Certain members of the party resembled dung beetles engaging low gear and powering up a cliff, on all four. I had to check for ticks in the most up expected environment. Even our kayak trip to visit the 3rd biggest mangrove swamp in Southern Africa, covering 118 ha, saw members of our party taking kayaking to an extreme level and covering triple the allotted kilometre’s. And our walk back along the beach turned into a race against the tide.

Our beach picnic which ended in dancing and wheelbarrow races, our river cruise which ended as an Abba tribute and our “games afternoon” (won by the ladies 3 vs 1) were all upscaled into extreme events. It is not called the Wild Coast for nothing ….even our guided bird hike had VAT added on for good measure.
