Sparkling Silver …

Wedding anniversary’s, as is life, are full of ups and downs. Sometimes we manage a night away (with a spa treatment), sometimes a wimpy breakfast will have to do (with the HF arriving late … but rather then, than 12 years earlier)

But after 25 years together we spent two nights in the African Bush with beers, braai and best friends. Fellow “lifers” and now best friends were also celebrating their 25 years of “pure bliss” together. With the joke (in SA the jail sentence for murder is shorter than 25 years) still hot on the lips, we headed out for our safari bush adventure. And what a lovely time we had. Being mid-week we had the boma and game guide to ourselves, we could adapt the times and activities as we wanted and cater our own refreshment needs (limited to one drink on your game drive – hell no!). We could chat small town gossip, farming, kids, weather and long term plans together and that, to me, is a true sign of friendship.

When leaving a 2 hour journey turned into a full day of exploration as we followed roads less travelled and visited new places and old friends. This, for me, was the perfect end to an unforgettable time away showing us that it is not all about “where you go” but “who you are with” that counts – a bit like marriage actually.
