Oh, goodness. Sometimes, I think about all the things there are to see in the world, and it makes my tummy rumble with a different kind of happy feeling. Not a honey-rumble, but a happy-to-be-here rumble. Christopher Robin says it’s a good thing to be amazed, and I think he’s right. It’s like finding a new path in the woods you’ve walked a hundred times, or noticing how the leaves on a tree aren’t all the same kind of green.
You see, for a bear of very little brain, a lot of things are surprising. The way a small cloud can look like a rabbit on its tiptoes, or how the river sings a different song every morning. You don’t have to go on a very grand adventure to find something amazing. Sometimes, it’s just looking at your own paws and wondering how they got so perfectly… paw-like. Being amazed keeps you from being bored, and being bored is a bit like a blustery day when you haven’t brought your scarf.
It makes everything more wonderful, too. When I find a pot of honey, it’s not just a pot of honey; it’s a magnificent, shimmering treasure from the bees, who worked very hard to make it. And when the sun goes down, it’s not just sleepy time; it’s a big, beautiful painting of pinks and oranges just for us. I think that’s the best part of all. If you keep your eyes open and your heart ready for a little surprise, the whole world is full of things to be amazed by. And that, I think, is a very good thing indeed.
