Welcome “Eyeore Bongi”….

We have a new member to the farm…. Jack and Ass (our donkeys) have had a foal.

We keep the pair of donkeys, a jack and a jenny, as part of the dry dairy cow herd. Dry cows are cows that have been taken out of the milking herd as they are due to calve.  They get 2 months r and r. During calving there is blood around which attracts the jackal.  If the cow has a problem calving and is weak and lying down the jackal attack her and her newborn calf.  Donkeys have proved to get very attached to the animals they associate with, they don’t take kindly to this kind of behavior!

We have named her “Eyeore Bongi Muirhead”.  Eyeore, for obvious reasons, and Bongi, a shortening of the Zulu name for a donkey …
