Let down by SAA? Or taking the scenic route? Have you ever seen a butterfuly that has not brought a smile to your face?
The dispersal of the brown veined white butterfly is in full swing in the midlands and over central South Africa. The butterflies are moving from the drier SW areas to the wetter NE areas. Seen generally always moving in a NE direction . This is an annual event but the numbers taking part in the dispersal vary between years. Climate change and the drought experienced in the Eastern Cape and central karoo, have certainly added numbers to the dispersal but are no solely responsible for it. Seeming to be poisonous ,a least very unpalatable, to birds, the majority of the kaleidoscope will make it to Mozambique and a few to the islands beyond – Madagascar etc.
And they do not pose a threat to agriculture on their way so happy travels and transporting smiles along the way ….
